Oxygen-poor blood gets from the heart to the lungs through the pulmonary arteries. In the lungs the blood is enriched with oxygen and then sent back to the heart.

You have had a tube inserted into your pulmonary artery. A tube like this is inserted into a large vein in the neck, for example. From there, the tip of the tube is pushed through the heart to the pulmonary artery. The other end of the tube hangs a little way out of the body and it can be connected to a measuring device. This enables a check to be done on how the heart and lungs are working.
