Therapeutic intravascular catheterization and cannulation: Other (percutaneous) transluminal angioplasty: Endovascular creation of arteriovenous fistula with magnetic resonance-guided high-energy pulses: Vessels of the lower leg

You have had an artificial connection created between an artery and a vein in your lower leg.

Two catheters were used to create the connection. A catheter is a thin tube. This tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or arm, and pushed further in. Various instruments can be pushed at the front of the tube.

One catheter was inserted into a vein, the other into an artery. The tubes were pushed through until their tips were close to each other in your lower leg. Electricity was then used to create an opening in the walls of the vein and the artery. In this way the two blood vessels were connected to one another.
