ICD-Code T64: Toxic effect of aflatoxin and other mycotoxin food contaminants

You have a type of food poisoning from eating food contaminated with a toxin produced by fungi (molds).

Fungi is everywhere in the environment. Certain types of fungi produce a toxic substance called a mycotoxin. Food can become contaminated by this toxin. Examples of food that can become contaminated include nuts and dried fruit.

Chemical food poisoning with a mycotoxin can affect your health in various ways. It can damage the liver, for example. This may prevent the liver from functioning as normal. In this case, your skin may take on a yellowish color or you may be sleepier than normal. If this mycotoxin is ingested over an extended period of time, it can also cause cancer. This can affect the liver, stomach or kidneys, for example.
