You have shigellosis.
Shigellosis is caused by certain bacteria. These bacteria are called shigella. There are various groups of these bacteria that occur in different regions of the world. The bacteria can be found in contaminated food and water for instance. If you eat this food or drink this water, you can be infected with the bacteria. The bacteria can also be transmitted directly via sick people.
A common symptom of shigellosis is severe runny diarrhea. The diarrhea can also be mucous or bloody. Sometimes you may also have to vomit. You can moreover have abdominal pain and a fever.
The diarrhea results in much fluid and important nutrients being lost. It is possible to feel very weak in that case. The bacteria can also cause deep wounds to develop in the intestines, or the intestines can become enlarged. This can make you very sick.
