A07.1: Giardiasis [lambliasis]
You have been infected with intestinal protozoa.
Protozoa are very small and consist of a single cell. They can infect the intestines as parasites and trigger diseases there. Parasites live completely or partially at the expense of another living organism. Infection occurs when the protozoa are taken in through the mouth. This can happen through water or food that is not clean.
You have an intestinal disease caused by protozoa. Your laboratory sample contains giardia.
Being infected with these protozoa can make you experience a feeling of pressure in your upper abdomen as a first sign. You may also feel nauseated. Your intestines can become inflamed. There may also be diarrhea. The diarrhea can be fatty.
The disease can also progress without any symptoms.
