A24.4: Melioidosis, unspecified
You have been infected by melioidosis.
Melioidosis is caused by certain bacteria. These bacteria are mostly found in Asia, Australia and Africa. The bacteria occur in water and the soil there. You can get infected if you get the bacteria in your mouth or inhale them. The bacteria can also get into your skin via lesions.
Melioidosis can result in a variety of symptoms. The lungs may be inflamed. With inflamed lungs, you may find breathing more difficult than usual, or have chest pain. If you are ill for a long time, skin changes may occur. It may also be that nothing of the illness is noticed for a long time.
