A28.2: Extraintestinal yersiniosis
You have been infected by certain bacteria that occur in animals.
The bacteria are called Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. These bacteria can occur in birds, rodents and other animals. You can become infected by having contact with infected animals or their excretions. You can also become infected by eating unwashed food.
You may have a sore throat. But the bacteria can also spread through the body via the blood. This can make you very sick. When the initial symptoms have died away, after a while you can get a rash or inflamed joints.
