A65: Nonvenereal syphilis

You are infected with bejel.

This condition is also known as endemic syphilis. Bejel is a disease caused by bacteria. The disease occurs in North Africa and the Middle East. You can get infected by touching an infected person on an affected area of their skin. You can also be infected by an item of shared use, such as a drinking glass.

First of all, changes occur in the mucous membrane in the mouth. The corners of the mouth may also be affected. Scaly papules may then appear all over the body. Changes may also occur in bones or joints.
