You have sleeping sickness.
Sleeping sickness is caused by certain pathogens. These pathogens can be transmitted to humans by tsetse fly bites. The tsetse fly is only found in Africa.
You usually first have headaches, a high temperature or a skin rash. The lymph nodes may also swell up. The lymph nodes are small bean-shaped objects. They are found throughout the body. Lymph nodes filter the tissue fluid. They are part of the defense system.
Later the illness usually affects the nervous system. The nervous system includes all the nerves in the body, as well as the brain and the spinal cord. The nerves run from the brain and spinal cord into the body. They convey information in the body. If the nervous system is affected, you are usually seriously ill. Sometimes you may no longer be able to move properly. Your behavior may also change. With this illness, you often have sleep disorders or you lose consciousness.
