B60.1: Acanthamoebiasis

You have been infected with amebae. As a result, tissue in your body has become inflamed.

Amebae are pathogens that are mainly found in the earth and in water. The pathogens often get into the skin or the eye in the body via small wounds. Contact lens wearers can be affected, for example.

The amebae can cause the eye to become inflamed. When the amebae have inflamed the eye, the eye is usually very painful. The eye then weeps a lot, too. The patient often has blurred vision, and avoids light. If the cornea becomes inflamed, a wound often occurs on the affected eye.
