B71.8: Other specified cestode infections
You have been diagnosed as having tapeworm.
Tapeworms are parasites. Parasites are small creatures that, at least for periods of time, live off other creatures. In humans they can cause illnesses. Depending on what sort they are, tapeworms can infect specific animals, for example rats. You typically become infected by swallowing the worm eggs. This can happen via infected or contaminated food, for example.
Tapeworm can also cause stomach pain or diarrhea. Tapeworm larvae can infect the hypodermis or muscle tissue. The brain or eye may also be affected. It is also possible that you have no symptoms at all.
