B74.2: Filariasis due to Brugia timori
You have been infected by certain threadworms. These threadworms have caused you to have filariasis.
The threadworms are transmitted by mosquitoes. Filariasis disease mainly occurs in Indonesia.
If the threadworms spread through the body, various symptoms may appear. To begin with, for example, the person may have a high temperature, headaches and joint pain. The threadworms also get into the lymph vessels and lymph nodes. These can become inflamed as a result.
Fluid forms in tissue throughout the body every day. This tissue fluid is the lymph. The lymph is carried around the body by lymph vessels. The lymph vessels run around the entire body and are connected to blood vessels. At some points, there are lymph nodes along the lymph vessels. Pathogens are rendered harmless in the lymph nodes, for example. When the lymph nodes become inflamed, they can swell up and be painful.
Other symptoms often appear later as the illness progresses. If the lymph nodes and lymph vessels are inflamed over a long period of time, the lymph sometimes stops flowing properly. A lymph blockage then occurs, in a leg for example.
