E70.2: Disorders of tyrosine metabolism

Your body is unable to properly process the amino acid tyrosine.

In the body, certain proteins ensure that processes run better or more quickly. These proteins are also known as enzymes. Some enzymes can break down the amino acid tyrosine. Amino acids are components of proteins. Because substances are constantly being converted in the body, excess amino acids must be excreted. That only happens when they are broken down beforehand.

In your case, an enzyme is not working properly. As a result, tyrosine cannot be properly broken down.

There are various disorders that involve an inability to break down tyrosine properly. The effects and symptoms can vary widely, depending on the disorder.
