E74.1: Disorders of fructose metabolism

You cannot properly process fructose (fruit sugar).

In the body, certain proteins ensure that processes run better or more quickly. These proteins are also known as enzymes. The illness can be caused by a missing enzyme. As a result, you cannot process fructose properly. This illness can be hereditary. That means that other family members can also be affected.

If you cannot properly process fructose, you may not have any symptoms. It is also possible that you cannot tolerate any fructose at all. With the disease, the liver for instance does not work properly or the sugar level in the blood is too low. You may also be seriously ill.
