E87.0: Hyperosmolality and hypernatraemia

Your blood sodium levels were too high.

Sodium helps regulate the moisture content in the body. Conversely, the water content in the body affects the sodium content in the blood. The sodium content is controlled by many processes. The sodium content in the blood must be in a specific range for the body to be able to function.

Your blood sodium levels were too high. That can occur for instance if you lose a lot of water. It may be the case with severe sweating, severe diarrhea or severe burns. You may also have too much sodium in your blood if your body can no longer properly control the sodium content.

If the sodium content in your blood is too high, you may for instance feel very sleepy. Seizures may also occur.
