F01.8: Other vascular dementia

You have a dementia disease. This is being caused by blood circulation disorders in your brain.

When nerve cells in the brain do not get enough blood, they die off. If the circulatory disorder occurs suddenly it is called a stroke. But some circulatory disorders are not noticed immediately. These circulatory disorders mainly affect the small blood vessels in the brain. With a circulatory disorder, a blood vessel may become blocked or narrower. But the blood vessel can also tear so that it bleeds into the tissue.

You have a dementia disease as a result of these circulatory disorders. With this dementia disease, one’s memory can gradually get worse. But one’s mood may change too. One may feel very depressed or confused. The disease often keeps people awake at night and tired during the day. The brain is also no longer able to carry out different tasks so well. One may have difficulties speaking, or in finding the right word for something.
