F13.2: Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of sedatives or hypnotics Dependence syndrome

You are dependent on sedatives or sleeping pills.

Sedatives have a tranquilizing effect. Sedatives include, for example, the benzodiazepine group. Sleeping pills help people to sleep. Sleeping pills include, for example, the barbiturates class of drugs.

You are dependent on sedatives or sleeping pills. When you are dependent on these pills, you have a constant strong desire to consume sedatives or sleeping pills. You may then find it difficult to control your consumption and need more and more sedatives or sleeping pills. Not consuming sedatives or sleeping pills may then lead to you having physical or mental problems. The addiction may cause you to neglect other things in your day-to-day life.
