Your brain or spinal cord has become inflamed. When the brain or spinal cord is inflamed it can cause a range of symptoms. You can lose consciousness and get attacks of cramp. You may behave and think differently. You may sometimes no longer be able to control your own movements. Potentially, you will no longer be able to move certain parts of your body. You can also get a high temperature and be in pain.

The spinal cord is located in the spinal column. The spinal cord is made up of nerve fibers. The brain uses the nerve fibers to exchange information with the organs, skin and muscles.
