ICD-Code I27.1: Kyphoscoliotic heart disease

Your heart is damaged because your spine is curved differently than normal.

When a spine is looked at from behind, it normally looks straight. If you look at the spine from the side, you can see that it usually is not quite straight. The spine is alternately curving inwards and outwards. The cervical spine and the lumbar spine curve forwards. The thoracic spine and sacrum curve outwards.

If the spine is curved differently than normal, this can cause constriction of the lungs and heart in the chest area. The lungs can then no longer expand properly, and the respiratory muscles cannot work properly. This can cause shortness of breath, for example. The function of heart and lungs are closely linked. If the lungs are impaired, the heart may also be damaged.

  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
