I72.6: Aneurysm and dissection of vertebral artery
Various arteries in the neck run to the brain and supply blood to the brain. One of your arteries has got wider or has torn.
There are two vertebral arteries in the back of the neck. The arteries run very close to the spine and then go into the skull through an opening. One of your vertebral arteries has got wider or has torn. This vascular wall consists of 3 layers. The inner layer can tear. As a result, blood can get in between the layers of the vascular wall.
This can occur, for example, when someone has persistent high blood pressure, or if the vascular wall weakens.
This widening of a blood vessel usually goes unnoticed. A tear in the vascular wall can cause pain.
