I87.21: Venous insufficiency (chronic)(peripheral) with ulceration

The veins in your leg are not functioning properly.

The veins carry the blood to the heart from the body. The veins in your leg are not functioning properly. This can occur if blood clots have formed in the veins, for example. Inflammations, congenital disorders and other illnesses can also cause vein weakness. Vein weakness can also begin when a person has varicose veins.

The vein weakness prevents the blood from flowing properly, for example. The leg can then swell up. The skin may also become inflamed or change color. You have open wounds in your leg. These open wounds often heal poorly because the blood cannot flow away properly.
