K08.2: Atrophy of edentulous alveolar ridge
You have lost one or several teeth. Your jawbone has thus receded.
Every tooth consists of 3 sections: the crown, the tooth neck (cervix) and the tooth root. The crown is the visible part of the tooth. The tooth neck is covered by the gums. The tooth root keeps the tooth in the jawbone.
Every tooth is located in a specific site in the jawbone. If you lose a tooth, this region of the jawbone recedes.
