K85.80: Other acute pancreatitis Without mention of organ complication

Your pancreas is suddenly inflamed.

The pancreas is located in the upper abdomen. It regulates the sugar content in the blood and forms substances for digestion, for example.

Your pancreas has become inflamed. There can be many different causes for an inflammation of the pancreas. For example, the pancreas may become inflamed due to an abdominal injury or specific pathogens. Sometimes the pancreas also becomes inflamed after an examination of the bile ducts.

If the pancreas is suddenly inflamed, you will often have pain in your upper abdomen. The pain often spreads around into your back. You may also feel nauseated and may vomit. You may also get a fever. If the inflammation is very pronounced, other organs may also be damaged. This can make you very sick.
