L63.8: Other alopecia areata
You are losing hair.
You have lost hair in certain places. Usually a lot of round, hairless areas suddenly develop, possibly spreading further. The hairless skin is often pale, but not otherwise damaged. Often it is only the colored hairs that fall out. The hairs that grow afterwards are often colorless.
Disorders of the body’s own immune system are often responsible for the hair loss. Inflammations caused by pathogens may also play a part. If the hair loss is only affecting small areas, they recover within a few months without any treatment.
