The skin of the face or upper arms is often changed. In the places affected, the skin is usually scaly, red and raised. The areas of skin affected and the joints may be sore. Sometimes the person feels very weak. Other symptoms may occur as well.

There are various causes of the disorder. It can be caused by pathogens, a medication or another disorder, for example.
