M25.46: Effusion of joint Lower leg
You have accumulations of fluid in your knee joint.
The knee joint connects the thighbone (femur) to the lower leg. The kneecap is also part of the knee joint. There are 2 bones in the lower leg. These bones are called the tibia (shinbone) and fibula. There is also a joint immediately below the knee joint between the tibia and fibula. You may also have an accumulation of fluid in the joint just below your knee.
Fluid can accumulate in the joint if the joint is worn or inflamed, for example. When fluid collects in the joint, the joint may swell up. The joint concerned may also be painful.
