Fatty tissue along your spine has become inflamed.

The fatty tissue at the junction between your head and neck has become inflamed.

Beneath the skin are muscles, fatty tissue and connective tissue. If the fatty tissue is inflamed, you can have painful nodules in your skin. The affected locations can turn red and be warmer than the surrounding area. It is also possible that you will have pain in your muscles.
