M65.06: Abscess of tendon sheath Lower leg
You have a tendon abscess in your knee or lower leg.
Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones. A tendon sheath is a covering for the tendon. It cushions the tendon and contains a small amount of fluid. This reduces friction between the tendon and its surroundings.
A tendon abscess is a pus-filled cavity on or in a tendon. A cavity like this can also occur inside a tendon sheath. Tendon abscesses can be caused by pathogens.
A tendon abscess can be painful. The skin over it may swell up. It may also be that you are no longer able to move the affected area of your body properly. You may also have a high temperature.
