M77.4: Metatarsalgia

Your metatarsus is giving you pain.

The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes. The metatarsus consists of 5 elongated metatarsal bones.

There are a variety of reasons for pain in the midfoot. The bones in the foot may be unusually aligned with each other. This will cause the load on the metatarsus to be heavier or different than normal. This loading can cause tissue in the metatarsus to become inflamed, for example. You can also have metatarsal pain after injuries or as a result of wear and tear to joints.
