N28.88: Other specified disorders of kidney and ureter

You have a disorder of the kidney or ureter.

There are 2 kidneys in the body. There is one on each side of the spine just below the ribcage. Each kidney is made up of renal tissue and a renal pelvis. The renal tissue purifies the blood and, by doing so, produces urine. Urine collects in the renal pelvis. The ureter is a thin tube of muscle in the abdomen. There is usually one ureter on each side. The urine flows from the kidney, via the ureter, to the bladder.

When someone has a disorder of the kidneys or the ureter, they may feel pain in their sides or have a fever. The lumbar region is the area of your side between your abdomen and your back.
