O34.31: Maternal care for prolapsed amniotic sac
It is thought that, or it has been diagnosed that, your amniotic sac has bulged through your cervix.
The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus. There is a canal in the cervix that connects the vagina to the inside of the uterus.
When the pregnancy begins, the amniotic sac containing the amniotic fluid develops in the womb. The amniotic sac surrounds the child.
If the cervix is shorter or wider than usual, the amniotic sac can bulge through the cervix.
The cervix can shorten for a number of different reasons. These reasons include, for example, surgery or pathogens.
