O92.10: Cracked nipple associated with childbirth No mention of difficulties latching on
You have a tear in your nipple.
The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed. The milk from the breast passes to the nipple through the milk ducts.
Tears occur in the nipple if, for example, the child is unable to suck the nipple properly when being breastfed. It may also be that the child is being held in an uncomfortable position while being breastfed, or that the child is biting the nipple. Tears in the nipple can also form if you are not using a breast pump properly. Tears in the breast can be painful, particular when breastfeeding the child. Tears like these may also become inflamed. Tears in the breast can cause problems when breastfeeding.
