P28.2: Cyanotic attacks of newborn
Child’s skin or mucous membranes keep turning blue.
Mucous membranes are the moist membranes in the mouth and nose, for example. It may be that only specific areas of the child’s body are turning blue. These may be the hands, feet or lips, for example. It may also be that all of the skin turns blueish. This blueish discoloration occurs if the blood in the affected areas contains less oxygen than usual.
