P61.6: Other transient neonatal disorders of coagulation
A temporary disorder has been found in the child’s blood clotting system.
Platelets and various clotting proteins in the blood are involved in blood clotting. The platelets can adhere to one another in such a way that they stop a bleed. The clotting proteins stabilize the platelets that have stuck together. This enables wounds to heal, for example.
If there is a blood clotting disorder, there can be a variety of indications. Bleeding may occur more easily than usual. The bleeds may also be heavier or last longer than usual.
