P70.1: Syndrome of infant of a diabetic mother
Health problems have occurred due to diabetes in the mother.
Diabetes in the mother can affect the child's development during pregnancy. The child may be bigger and heavier than most other children. Various deformities of the internal organs can also occur. After the birth it may have breathing problems.
Immediately after the birth, the sugar levels in the child's blood might keep falling too low. If the sugar content of the blood is too low, the child may breathe faster than usual or stop breathing. When there are breathing problems the skin can turn blueish. The body temperature may be lower than usual. The child may also suffer seizures or fall unconscious.
