In the time around the birth, tissue in the abdomen became inflamed.

There are different reasons why tissue in the abdomen can become inflamed. In babies, for example, tissue in the abdomen can become inflamed if the bowel is torn. Because of the tear, fluids and air can get out of the intestines into the abdomen. Such fluids can for instance be digestive fluids and feces.

If tissue in the baby's abdomen is inflamed there can be a variety of indications. The abdomen can be tight. The child's heart may also beat more quickly usual. The baby may also have fever. The child may also be more lethargic than usual and not drink properly.
