P78.3: Noninfective neonatal diarrhoea

In the period immediately after the birth, diarrhea occurred.

A newborn child can have soft bowel movements several times a day. However, when the child has liquid bowel movements very often, this is known as diarrhea. The feces may also smell disgusting. The child will often be very restless and cry a lot.

In babies, the reason for diarrhea can be a congenital disorder of the bowel or the pancreas, for example. It is also possible that no cause will be found for the diarrhea.
