Q13.1: Absence of iris

You are missing your iris.

The colored iris is located in the center of the eye. There is a black opening in the center of the iris. This is the pupil. The iris also controls how big the pupil is.

While developing in the womb, many different types of tissue develop in the body. The organs and body parts develop out of the various types of tissue. If tissue fails to develop properly, defects can occur.

Your iris has not developed properly, so it is missing. To lack one’s iris can be hereditary. Other family members can also be affected by a hereditary disorder.

If the iris is missing, the light can fall into the eye unhindered. Therefore you may react more sensitively than usual to light.
