Q43.40: Duplication of small intestine

You have an extra part of the small intestine. This condition is congenital, which means you were born with it.

The intestines are made up of the small intestine and the large intestine or colon. Most of the nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine. The large intestine (colon) is where water and salt are withdrawn from the stool. The last segment of the large intestine (colon) is the rectum. Stool then leaves the body through the anus. You have an extra part of the small intestine.

An extra part of the intestine can press on other organs in the abdomen, for example. The extra part of the intestine may also become inflamed. You can then have various problems. You may be able to feel a swelling in the abdomen, for example. You may also need to vomit. You may also have blood in your stool.
