ICD-Code R00.3: Pulseless electrical activity, not elsewhere classified

Cardiac arrest has occurred.

The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients. The electrical currents flow through the heart. The heart's electrical activity causes the heart muscle to contract. It begins at a site in your right atrium. Initially the electrical activity spreads to both atria. The electrical activity then flows on via a sort of cable to the ventricles.

The electrical impulses of your heart were still present during the cardiac arrest, but your heart still stopped beating. A cardiac arrest can have various causes. The heart itself may be diseased. Disorders in other organs or serious injuries can also cause cardiac arrest.
