R09.0: Asphyxia

You have had problems with your breathing and circulation.

You have stopped breathing. If you stop breathing, there is too little or no oxygen in your body. This causes your organs to stop working properly after a short time. Mainly the lungs, the heart and the brain are affected. This condition is life-threatening. You can only survive if you are resuscitated quickly. Respiratory arrest can be caused by many conditions. Sometimes you are suddenly no longer able to breathe following an injury or accident.
