The membrane around your lungs has become inflamed.

The lungs and ribs are surrounded by a smooth membrane. The membrane protects the lungs and the lungs follow the movements of the chest during breathing. In your case, this membrane has become inflamed, causing you to have pain when breathing. The membrane of the lungs and ribs can become inflamed due to pathogens or after injury to the chest.
