You are not properly conscious. Or you cannot recognize certain things properly.

You were probably not properly conscious. Impaired consciousness can make you sleepy, for example. When you are spoken to, you usually react slowly or not at all, for example. You may also not be able to recognize things properly anymore. This may be people or objects, for example. You may also no longer able to perform certain actions.
