R77.2: Abnormality of alphafetoprotein

The amount of certain proteins in your blood has changed.

The level of a certain protein has changed that is mainly produced in your liver. There are many possibilities as to why this level may have changed. Sometimes it can be an indication of cancer. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body.
