R95.0: Sudden infant death with mention of autopsy

The child died suddenly and unexpectedly.

If a child dies suddenly and unexpectedly, it is known as sudden infant death. Even a detailed examination after the death did not find any other cause of death.

Sudden infant death usually happens when the child is sleeping. It is not known exactly why a previously healthy child can suddenly die. However, various factors are known that increase the risk of sudden infant death. For example, the risk is greater in premature babies and boys.
