You have injured your tongue or floor of mouth. You have an open wound as a result of the injury.

The skin usually prevents pathogens from getting into the body. When you have an open wound the skin is damaged. This means that pathogens can get into the wound.

The floor of the mouth is the area between the lower jaw bone and the hyoid bone. The hyoid bone is a U-shaped structure located in the front of the neck at the top. The floor of the mouth is lined with mucous membrane. The floor of the mouth consists of connective tissue and muscles.
