S27.5: Injury of thoracic trachea
You have injured your trachea (windpipe).
An injury like this occurs, for example, as a result of an accident or a violent blow to the chest.
The trachea or windpipe begins below the larynx. It consists of many cartilage rings that strengthen the trachea. The trachea splits into 2 large airways in the middle of the chest. The airways then go into the lungs and branch out further.
When you have damaged your trachea, you can have pain or breathing problems.
