S36.81: Injury: Peritoneum
You have an injury to the tissue around the organs in your abdomen.
There are many vital organs and tissue in your abdomen. If the abdomen is injured, these organs or tissue may get damaged too. The abdomen can be injured as a result of an accident or a blow, for example.
The abdominal organs are located in the abdominal cavity. The inside of the abdominal cavity is covered by a thin membrane. This thin membrane also surrounds all the organs in the abdomen. The organs can move against each other thanks to this thin membrane.
When tissue around the organs in the abdomen has been injured, there can be a range of symptoms. The symptoms depend on the extent of the damage. For example, you may have abdominal pains.
Injured tissue may also bleed. Sometimes blood collects in the tissue. If the bleeding is heavy, you can have circulation problems. This can sometimes be life-threatening.
