S37.02: Laceration of kidney
You have injured your kidney.
There are 2 kidneys in the body. There is one on each side of the spine just below the ribcage. Each kidney is made up of renal tissue and a renal pelvis. The renal tissue purifies the blood and, by doing so, produces urine. The urine gathers in the renal pelvis.
In your case, your renal pelvis or renal capsule has been lacerated. The renal capsule surrounds each kidney.
Injuring an organ in the abdomen or pelvis can result in pain in that area. You may also have blood in your urine. You may not be able to pass water properly. If there is heavy abdominal bleeding, you can be very ill.
