T42.4: Poisoning: Benzodiazepines

You have been poisoned by a drug in the benzodiazepines group.

Benzodiazepines are depressants. They can be used with anxiety or for seizures, for example.

A drug can cause poisoning if, for example, too much of it is taken. The drug may also be administered or taken by mistake.

Benzodiazepine poisoning can cause drowsiness, for example. The muscles may grow weak. As a result, it can become difficult to walk and talk, for example. It may also impair your breathing. The person can also lose consciousness.

With older people or children, however, benzodiazepines can have a different effect. They can cause unease, anxiety or insomnia, for example.
